Doubling Down on Stupid

By Joseph Catena

Last June, I wanted something tragic to happen: I wanted to see Zohran Mamdani win the New York Mayoral race, and I got what I wanted (Here’s to You, Mr. Cardamom – Welcome).

Of course, this was purely for Macchiavellian reasons.

I believe more than ever that Mamdani and all other democratic socialists (i.e. – communists) and the Democratic Socialists of America will bring down the Democratic party and pave the way for long-term Republican rule. Unfortunately, there will be some pain involved, as New Yorkers are currently experiencing. But that’s what happens when you elect subversive radicals with no clue on how to serve the public.

Wealthy New Yorkers will soon suffer the ridiculously unfair pied-a-terre tax. How dare they have a second home! Independent grocery store and bodega owners will soon feel the pinch when government grocery stores open and undersell them. Landlords are also under attack as rent control mandates will cripple their ability to make money and keep up with building expenses and property taxes. Lastly, and most sadly, New York’s longstanding Jewish population is being hit the worst. Mamdani, who is ardently anti-Israel, has made it clear that he has zero regard for Jews, especially when demonstrators caused a ruckus outside a synagogue in May, just one day after several other synagogues and Jewish homes were vandalized with swastikas and antisemitic graffiti adorned them. The new nepo baby Mayor offered little comfort or condemnation to the revival of the pogrom. It still galls and bewilders me that 33% of Jews voted for him.

Basically, the Big Apple is riddled with worms. If Gov. Kathy Hochul keeps kowtowing to the mayor, she just might suffer an upset loss in her re-election bid against Bruce Blakeman this November. If Hochul wins, she will push further left and the entire Empire State will crumble. You would think the party apparatus would do something to stop the socialist movement, especially outside of the liberal coastal areas.

Apparently, the donkeys don’t care. They see what is happening in New York, and they are still doubling down on stupid, even in the Midwest, where radical antisemitic senatorial candidate and DSA-approved Abdul El-Sayed eked out a win over the Establishment’s choice, Rep. Haley Stevens. El-Sayed insists he’s not a socialist even though he appeared at a half-dozen DSA events. Amazingly, the Stevens campaign spent more than $60 million but still couldn’t stop the storming “non-socialist.” The quirky Stevens is also a lefty progressive, but one who is pro-Israel. She called El-Sayed’s rhetoric divisive while on the campaign trail. However, she quickly fell into line after her defeat and vowed her support.

El-Sayed campaigned with Bernie Sanders and AOC, which was disturbing for various reasons. But that was nothing compared to his bond with despicable Jew-hating podcaster, Hasan “America deserved 9-11” Piker. If you are judged by the company you keep, then I will judge El-Sayed to be an evil antisemite. I would say the same of any Republican who fawned over Nick Fuentes.

The rest of the party has also sold its soul and joined Stevens with their support, no matter how tepid. New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, the embattled minority party leader and most powerful Jewish politician in the nation, and biggest coward of all Democrats, wouldn’t mention El-Sayed by name, but stressed that Democrats need to win Michigan. DNC Chair Ken Martin also released a statement congratulating El-Sayed and emphasized, “Democrats are united in working together to keep this seat blue and send El-Sayed to the U.S. Senate.”

Presumably, Mike Rogers, El-Sayed’s Republican opponent, is relishing this opportunity. He could be the first Republican to win this seat in the last 30 years. This should not be difficult for the former Army veteran, who also has a background in FBI law enforcement. Rogers’ credentials and pragmatic conservatism give him a distinct contrast to his wild-eyed wolf-in-socialist clothing opponent.

Optimism anyone?

This is not to say that Rogers could not have won against Stevens, but why buy the cow when you can beat the socialist for free? El-Sayed is a gift. So is every other socialist or DSA-backed candidate running in competitive races like Troy Jackson, who replaced deranged Graham Platner in Maine. Susan Collins went from facing one socialist, who abused women and sported a Nazi tattoo, to a guy who fathered two children with his second cousin. At least he doesn’t hit her.

DSA loons will continue to win deep blue congressional seats. The more, the merrier. After a while, they will take the party over because so-called moderates are too afraid to say anything. Over time, the socialists will win primaries in many races of all magnitudes. Michigan is just the beginning. Then the real fun begins. Either the DSA forms a third party and splits votes, or they entirely take over the Democratic party and lose centrist and moderate voters and leaders including Jim Carville and Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman.

Let them choose the latter and continue to double down on stupid. We’ll be smart enough to pick up the broken pieces.
